Crime Scene Investigation (CSI)

The Crime Scene Investigations Unit is composed of field patrol Police Services Officers who are trained in the areas of crime scene photography and evidence collection.


The Crime Scene Investigations Unit is responsible for the collection, preservation, packaging, transportation, and documentation of physical evidence left at crime scenes. Crime Scene personnel are trained in specialized photography and the use of chemical reagents and use alternate light sources to locate hard-to-find items. Examples of physical evidence our investigators collect include:

  • Fingerprints
  • Tool marks
  • Footwear impressions
  • Bite marks
  • Bloodstains
  • Body fluids
  • Hair and trace evidence
  • Gunshot residue
  • Weapons
  • Bullet casings
  • Bullet fragments
